Infants usually show this condition. It occurs due to some abnormalities taking place in a mother's womb, when the baby is developing his testicles. Mostly, these defects get naturally cured within few months of birth. Adults may also sometimes develop this ailment when the body does not drain out excess fluid formed.

Simple hydroceles are painless and do not cause any discomfort. However, hydroceles developed from inguinal hernia need to be surgically treated as soon as possible. There are two surgical techniques prevalent for treating this physical condition. The type of technique you may undergo, depends on the size of hydrocele formed.

The first method is termed as Lord's procedure. Small to medium size water sacs are plicated in this technique. The other technique is known as jaboulay procedure where the sac is everted and sutured behind the testes.

Thus the sac is cut away and the remainder part is turned inside out. The section that was secreting fluid is now in contact with internal part of scrotum and not the testicles. Scrotal tissues can absorb this extra fluid and thus helps to prevent formation of water bags.

Patients are allowed to go home the same day after surgery. However, consecutive sittings with your surgeon post surgery are essential. During the early part of post operative period, careful attention needs to be given to the affected area.

The wounded area may get infected, that needs to be immediately reported to your surgeon. Slight swelling exists for several weeks after surgery. This is normal and will disappear gradually. If in any case, continuous fever, redness or itching is experienced, it needs to be immediately discussed with your concerned surgeon.
