Hepatitis A Test Cost

Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) test is done to determine the presence of Hepatitis A Virus in blood. HAV attacks the liver and causes severe infection. The infection is transmitted through fecal matter of the infected person.

The body produces two types of antibodies against the virus; namely, IgM and IgG. A person undergoing a test just two weeks post infection, shows presence of IgM antibodies; while a test done after 6 - 8 weeks after viral invasion shows IgM antibodies. IgM antibodies stay in the blood throughout and thus protect the body from further infection.

Early two week symptoms include mild fever, muscle cramps, fatigue etc. While later phase include dark urine and light stool as the most confirmatory symptoms of hepatitis. Doctors order a blood test to distinguish what type of hepatitis are you infected with, and this helps to decide the next course of action.

No prior preparation is required for HAV test procedure. Hepatitis A testing involves collection of blood sample from your arms through a venipuncture. Doctors advice that no blood thinning medicine should be taken prior to sample collection as this may lead to uncontrolled bleeding in some cases.

Discussing with your doctor about other health troubles or medicines you currently consume is essential. Even herbs or natural products may land you an erroneous result. Therefore, prior discussions with your doctor are elementary to ensure accurate results.
