ANCA Profile Cost

ANCA test checks for the level of Anti Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies in blood. It is a simple blood test and quite easy to perform. However, checking the blood sample for levels of ANCA is a job of highly experienced pathologists only. Testing can be done in laboratories which are well equipped with state-of-the-art machinery.

Anti Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies are synthesized by the immune system of a person who is suffering from some autoimmune disorders. These antibodies attack the substance of neutrophils which are the most abundantly found white blood cells in human tissues.

People suffering from autoimmune disorders have a faulty immune system which targets the person's own body tissues. By attacking neutrophils, ANC antibodies deteriorate the patient's capability to fight against any harmful influence.

Indications of ANCA test are mentioned below:

  • Skin rash
  • Localized inflammation
  • Abnormal results of urine routine test
  • Petechial hemorrhages
  • Running nose
  • Heaviness of head
  • Nose bleed
  • Redness and burning of eyes and ears
  • Weight loss
  • Hematuria

Individually, these symptoms are not suggestive of any major underlying disorder. However, in a group, these symptoms indicate towards autoimmune disorders like Wegener granulomatosis and other forms of vasculitis.

The above mentioned symptoms usually do not respond to standard treatment if their underlying cause is any autoimmune disorder. Patients presenting with such a medical history are usually asked to undergo ANCA test.

Patients have to visit a pathology lab for providing a blood sample required for the test. Alternatively, a laboratory technician may visit the patient’s home to collect a sample. A venous blood sample is required to check for ANCA levels. It is withdrawn by injecting a needle into a vein of the forearm. There may be temporary inflammation at the site of injection, which recedes within a few hours.

ANCA test may be coupled with other diagnostic procedures like USG scan, MRI scan, X-ray, if the physician feels necessary.

ANCA Profile FAQs
Q: How many types of ANCA/ANC profile test are there?
A: There are two tests: cytoplasmic ANCA (c–ANCA) and peri-nuclear ANCA (p–ANCA).
Q: What does ANCA stand for?
A: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies. The body erroneously produces them to attack its own immune system (neutrophils) and tissues that are mistaken as foreign microorganisms.
Q: What is ANCA test used for?
A: For the diagnosis of vasculitides like vasculitis such as microscopic polyangiitis, Wegener's granulomatosis, etc.
Q: What are the symptoms of vasculitides?
A: Nerve damage, kidney inflammation, skin lesions, sinus pain, upper respiratory infections, weight loss, bloody fluid from the nose, etc.
Q: What are the medications to deal with vasculitides?
A: Antibiotics, steroids, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine, and other immunosuppressants.
